I’m not entirely sure what your proposed answer to this problem is, though: are you saying that it would be better if these animals had never been born in the first place? These aren’t creatures that could survive on their own, they’re domesticated animals that require human intervention to survive.

In the case of humanely-raised animals, these are the two choices: the animal is never born into this world at all, or it’s born, lives a relatively comfortable life, and is killed as the “price” it pays for that life. For that matter, humane slaughter is almost *certainly* better than any sort of death an animal might experience in the wild.

If you were to just say “we have no right to use animals in this way and none of them should ever have been born”, that would make sense as an ethical argument. But I’m not sure that you’re saying that.

  2. Reading your post made me feel less alone in my battle…yes, it’s a battle…of being vegan. I feel the same way as you described with regards to eating meat or dairy. Usually when the topic of food is bought up in a conversation i hear the same story…vegans are eccentric and extreme….what!?…i really have become tired of trying to explain my reasons so i go my way. I just wanted to let you know that your post was a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing Carolina! I can totally relate and agree, it’s not easy but it is nice to connect with others out there to know that none of us are alone in this. It can be hard when talking to others as you see the world in such a completely different light. Take care ?
